Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen: Racing Giants Among the World’s Highest-Paid Athletes

In a world where sports earnings are skyrocketing, two Formula 1 superstars have secured their spots among the top 25 highest-paid athletes globally in 2025. Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, and his fierce rival Max Verstappen, a four-time champ, have clinched impressive rankings on the prestigious list.

According to the renowned American business magazine Forbes, Hamilton claimed the 22nd position, tying with Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez, with a whopping total income of $80 million in the past year. On the other hand, Verstappen closely followed in 24th place, just ahead of football sensation Neymar Jr, by bringing in $78 million, primarily from his salary and bonuses at Red Bull along with lucrative commercial deals.

While Verstappen’s earnings mainly stemmed from his racing endeavors, Hamilton showcased his financial prowess by excelling in off-track ventures, including strategic investments and endorsements, outshining his competitor in this aspect.

The dominance of ball game players and athletes in the Forbes list is evident, with football icon Cristiano Ronaldo leading the pack for the third consecutive year with a staggering $275 million in total income. Following closely behind are basketball maestro Stephen Curry in second place with $156 million and boxer Tyson Fury securing the third spot with a respectable $146 million.

Interestingly, the list also sheds light on the changing landscape of sports earnings, with New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson landing at the bottom with earnings of $53.6 million. A stark contrast to the current rankings, Wilson’s earnings would have positioned him sixth overall just eight years ago, underlining the exponential growth in sports personalities’ incomes over the years.

For aspiring athletes and established stars alike, securing a coveted spot on the Forbes list has become more challenging than ever, reflecting the evolving dynamics of the sports industry and the increasing commercial opportunities available to global sporting icons.
