As the 2024 season progresses, Lewis Hamilton has been facing persistent questions about his next transition, especially due to Ferrari’s impressive performance early in the season. The seven-time world champion recently addressed speculation around his move from Mercedes to Ferrari, stating that he does not need to justify his decision.

Hamilton’s announcement in February about his departure from Mercedes after 12 years caught the sports world by surprise. Speaking ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai, Hamilton expressed confidence in his choice, stating that he is firm in his decision and unaffected by others’ opinions.

This will only be Hamilton’s second team change in his Formula 1 career, with the first being his move from McLaren to Mercedes in 2012. Drawing from his previous experience, Hamilton intends to navigate this transition successfully. He acknowledged that there will continue to be criticisms and speculations, but he is focused on what he believes is right for him.

Hamilton has signed a multi-year contract with Ferrari that will last at least until the end of 2026, coinciding with the introduction of new engine and design regulations. These changes have the potential to disrupt the current dynamics, which have been dominated by Red Bull since 2022. When asked about Ferrari’s ability to provide him with a championship-worthy car under the new regulations, Hamilton expressed optimism about the longevity of his career, stating that he plans to race until he is forty.

In addition, Hamilton commented on the extension of Fernando Alonso’s contract with Aston Martin until 2026. Despite their troubled partnership in the past at McLaren in 2007, Hamilton welcomed Alonso’s continued career, emphasizing that he himself plans to race for a significant period of time and hopes Alonso does the same.
