The Monaco Grand Prix of 2024 was incredibly boring!
The Monaco GP has always been considered the most prestigious race in F1. The race around the principality has been part of the sport since the first season of the championship in 1950. However, over time, F1 cars have become wider, resulting in a significant decrease in the number of overtakes on the 3.33-kilometer street circuit of Monaco. To solve this unique problem, there was an interesting proposal to make the event more exciting.
For the first time in F1 history, the top 10 drivers on the grid finished in the same order when the race ended. This led many drivers to complain about the lack of overtaking opportunities on the narrow street circuit. Additionally, even using the softest tires available for the race, drivers managed to complete the entire 78-lap distance on a single set of tires after the red flag.
This led Lewis Hamilton to suggest a solution to the race organizers.
The British driver explained that drivers could complete the entire race with just one set of tires. He criticized the Italian tire manufacturer for providing tires that were too hard for a race where the tires do not undergo much stress. He proposed that implementing a three-stop strategy could make the race more exciting for both drivers and fans. It would also help ensure that the Monaco Grand Prix remains on the F1 calendar.
While drivers complained about the unique characteristics of the Monaco track that made overtaking difficult, several teams introduced improvements to try to compete for the top positions. However, only one team, [Team Name], received the full set of upgrades, which proved beneficial as their 26-year-old driver finished in 5th place.
After witnessing Russell’s impressive performance, the former champion expressed his desire to have the same improvements in his car.
The English driver expressed his optimism in receiving the upgrades for his car. He also mentioned that, based on his teammate’s performance in Monaco, he is looking forward to having the upgrades for the next race in Canada and taking advantage of the car’s characteristics.
Furthermore, Hamilton admitted that he wants the team in Brackley to develop improvements at a faster pace so that the track team can reduce the gap to [Team Name] and [Team Name]. However, despite his optimism, rival teams are currently far ahead in terms of car development. Therefore, Mercedes engineers have a lot of work ahead of them to improve their performance this year.
