Legendary Brawn GP F1 Car Sells for Millions in Miami – Racing History Unleashed

In a jaw-dropping turn of events, the iconic Brawn GP Formula 1 car, which propelled Jenson Button to championship glory in 2009, has been auctioned off in Miami for a staggering $3.8 million. This sale took place during the electrifying 2025 Miami Grand Prix weekend, adding a touch of Formula 1 glamour to the high-octane atmosphere.

The Brawn GP story is the epitome of an underdog tale in the world of motorsport. Following Honda’s departure from F1 in 2008, Ross Brawn and Nick Fry swooped in, acquiring the team for a mere £1 and joining forces with Mercedes-Benz. The following season, with the revolutionary double diffuser, Jenson Button dominated the tracks, winning six out of seven races and ultimately securing both the drivers’ and constructors’ titles.

Described as a “Formula 1 fairy tale” by Miami’s head of sales for Bonhams|Cars, Louis Frankel, the auctioned car, Chassis 001/01, symbolizes a historic moment in motorsport history. The vehicle’s sale at the Miami Grand Prix was a fitting tribute to its legendary status, captivating collectors worldwide with its rich narrative and groundbreaking design.

The excitement surrounding the auction was palpable, as the car, originally driven by Rubens Barrichello in 2009 and later passed on to Jenson Button post-championship victory, found its way to a new owner. Despite not reaching its estimated value of $4.5-6.5 million, the Brawn GP Chassis 001 remains a remarkable piece of engineering, featuring a 2.4-liter Mercedes-Benz V8 power unit capable of producing 750bhp at 18,000rpm.

While the car may lack functional gearbox internals, its symbolic value and historical significance make it a prized possession for any avid collector or motorsport enthusiast. The legacy of the Brawn GP team lives on through this iconic machine, forever etched in the annals of Formula 1 history.
