Legacy Motor Club Sues Rick Ware Racing Over Charter Deal Violation: Legal Showdown Unveiled

Legacy Motor Club is making headlines in the racing world as they take legal action against Rick Ware Racing. The Club has filed a lawsuit alleging that Rick Ware Racing is attempting to unlawfully back out of a deal involving the sale of one of its charters to the Jimmie Johnson-led team.

The lawsuit, filed in Mecklenburg County Clerk of Superior Courts, claims that Rick Ware Racing signed a document agreeing to sell a charter to Legacy Motor Club but is now refusing to honor the agreement. Tensions are high between the two parties, with Legacy Motor Club expressing their frustration by stating, “At the exact same time that Legacy has charted a path forward, RWR has flagged and flailed in the rear.”

Rick Ware Racing, known for fielding Cody Ware as their sole full-time driver currently sitting at the bottom of the championship standings, has been accused of being “strapped for cash” and unable to compete at the Cup Series level without selling one of its charters. Legacy Motor Club, on the other hand, is looking to expand its presence in the Cup Series by adding a third full-time entry for the 2026 season.

With only 36 charters available in the NASCAR Cup Series, each charter holds immense value, often being traded between teams for millions of dollars. The legal battle between Legacy Motor Club and Rick Ware Racing sheds light on the cutthroat nature of the racing industry, where deals worth millions are made and broken.

In response to the lawsuit, Legacy Motor Club is seeking a temporary restraining order and a preliminary injunction against Rick Ware Racing to enforce their legal rights over the disputed charter. The racing world is now eagerly watching as these two parties face off in a legal showdown that could have far-reaching implications for the sport.
