In a bold move to strengthen its leadership and engineering prowess, Legacy Motor Club has appointed Brian Campe as its new technical director, effective immediately. Campe, an experienced and highly-regarded figure in motorsport engineering, is expected to play a key role in elevating the team’s performance at NASCAR’s highest level.
“I’m super excited to join Legacy Motor Club and am looking forward to the opportunity and challenge ahead,” said Campe. “I believe in the vision for Legacy M.C. and hope to build on the talent already here, bringing my experience to the organization so we can compete for wins at NASCAR’s highest level.”
Campe’s impressive resume includes a stint at Hendrick Motorsports, where he held the same technical director role. He also served as Kyle Larson’s strategist for Arrow McLaren at the Indianapolis 500 in May, showcasing his versatility and tactical acumen across different motorsport disciplines. A mechanical engineering graduate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Campe’s career in NASCAR began at Dale Earnhardt Inc. before he moved on to roles at JR Motorsports and Team Penske. His time with Penske was particularly successful, with victories at the Indianapolis 500 with Juan Pablo Montoya and a championship win with Josef Newgarden in the IndyCar Series. Campe rejoined Hendrick Motorsports in 2021 before his recent move to Legacy M.C.
Legacy Motor Club co-owner and NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson is optimistic about Campe’s impact on the team. “The addition of a talent like Brian Campe is integral to the success of Legacy M.C.,” Johnson stated. “Brian’s experience with championship teams like Hendrick and Penske will make him a huge asset to Legacy M.C. We are eager to see the improvement his leadership will bring to the engineering arm of the Club.”
Legacy Motor Club currently fields two full-time entries for drivers Erik Jones and John Hunter Nemechek, with Johnson himself competing in a third entry in select races. With Campe’s wealth of experience and engineering expertise, Legacy M.C. aims to climb the NASCAR ranks and contend for top finishes in the seasons ahead.
