Charles Leclerc has expressed excitement over Lewis Hamilton’s imminent move to Ferrari in 2025, but he made it clear that the seven-time world champion remains laser-focused on his duties at Mercedes for the current season. As Ferrari gears up to welcome Hamilton into their ranks, Leclerc revealed that the British driver’s commitment to his longtime team is still unwavering, even as anticipation builds for his future with the Italian marque.
Hamilton has continued to perform impressively in the 2024 season, securing two race wins so far. Despite the intense rivalry between Mercedes and Ferrari on the track, Leclerc and Hamilton have begun building a strong relationship, with their conversations extending beyond racing. The Monegasque driver shared that their recent discussions have revolved around their mutual interests outside of Formula 1, rather than focusing solely on their upcoming collaboration at Ferrari.
“We don’t only speak about racing but also with everything that is around. Actually, since the announcement with Ferrari, we’ve spoken a lot more about our communal passions outside of racing rather than racing itself,” Leclerc revealed.
Leclerc emphasized that Hamilton’s loyalty to Mercedes remains steadfast, as he continues to fight for success with the team he’s called home for nearly 12 years. Both drivers are still fully committed to their respective teams as the 2024 season heads towards its conclusion.
“Because he is still 200% focused on his season with Mercedes, and myself on Ferrari,” Leclerc said, reinforcing that both drivers are determined to close the current chapter before embarking on their Ferrari journey together.
Looking ahead to 2025, Leclerc is optimistic about the potential success of the Leclerc-Hamilton partnership. Both drivers bring unique strengths to the table, and Leclerc is confident that their competitive spirit will push Ferrari to new heights. He is also certain that despite the inevitable rivalry between them, they will work together to achieve Ferrari’s ultimate goal—victory.
“I am sure it is going to be a competitive battle, but we are here to work for Ferrari, and in this, there are no doubts,” Leclerc added.
The 2024 season has already seen dramatic developments, with McLaren overtaking Red Bull in the constructors’ standings and extending their lead. With Ferrari and Mercedes battling to keep their championship hopes alive, Leclerc and Hamilton remain focused on delivering the best possible results before joining forces for Ferrari’s next chapter in 2025.
