Charles Leclerc finished the race in Austria without points, as his chances were compromised due to damage. Leclerc admitted that Ferrari’s recent updates in Formula 1 caused unintended “restrictions” on his car during a challenging Austrian Grand Prix. Ferrari started the season as the closest competitor to Red Bull, with two wins in eight races, but the last three rounds have been tougher. Despite reacting to their sudden drop in Canada with an accelerated upgrade package in Barcelona, Ferrari once again lagged behind their rivals in Spielberg. Leclerc’s prospects at the Red Bull Ring were immediately affected when he suffered front wing damage in a collision between two cars at Turn 1. He was unable to recover and score points with a four-stop strategy, and he blames Sergio Perez for the minor crash on the first lap. Leclerc expressed that taking that turn three-wide is almost impossible and blamed Perez for persisting instead of avoiding trouble. The damage to his wing forced him to return to the pits, which had a negative impact on his race. However, Leclerc found consolation in his teammate Carlos Sainz’s podium finish and the points he brought to Ferrari after the collision between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. Leclerc also revealed that he and Sainz were using different setups on the SF-24 car, as the team tries to understand their developments. Leclerc acknowledged that Ferrari’s updates introduced oscillations at high speeds, and he agrees that the revamped package imposed limitations. He emphasized the need to analyze and resolve these limitations, as they have faced difficulties for two weekends. However, Leclerc is not optimistic about finding a solution to improve things at Silverstone this weekend, stating that they have not yet discovered a way to enhance their performance.
