Lawson Embraces Learning Opportunity from Verstappen in Upcoming Formula 1 Season

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - MARCH 12: Max Verstappen of the Netherlands and Oracle Red Bull Racing and Liam Lawson of New Zealand and Oracle Red Bull Racing talk at an Oracle Red Bull Racing event during previews ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Australia at Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit on March 12, 2025 in Melbourne, Australia. Liam Lawson, the fresh face at Red Bull, is poised to extract maximum value from his maiden Formula 1 season by learning from his vastly experienced team-mate, Max Verstappen. Lawson, who has been drafted in as a replacement for the underperforming Sergio Perez, is under no illusion about the daunting task that lies ahead. He acknowledges that outpacing Verstappen right from the get-go would be a tall order, given the latter’s illustrious career and intricate understanding of the sport.

Instead of prematurely setting his sights on outracing Verstappen, Lawson is choosing to view this as an unparalleled opportunity to soak up as much knowledge and expertise as possible from his seasoned team-mate. His goal is to leverage Verstappen’s wisdom and insights to rapidly enhance his own driving prowess and skillset, thereby setting the stage for a successful career in Formula 1.

Lawson’s arrival comes in the wake of a disappointing 2024 season for Red Bull’s former driver, Sergio Perez. Despite his best efforts, the Mexican driver found it difficult to make his mark with the RB20 car. This prompted Red Bull to take a strategic decision and bring in Lawson, a move that signifies the team’s trust in Lawson’s abilities and potential.

The rookie driver’s pragmatic approach and willingness to learn from one of the best in the business could well be the key to a promising start for his Formula 1 journey. As Lawson gears up for the upcoming season, fans and spectators around the world will be eagerly watching his progress and development, hoping for a new star to rise in the high-octane world of Formula 1 racing.
