In a shocking turn of events at the Belgian Grand Prix, Kimi Antonelli is set to face a major setback as he is relegated to starting from the pit-lane. The Italian driver’s misfortune stems from a Mercedes power unit change, a move that has sent ripples of astonishment throughout the racing community.

Antonelli’s weekend at Spa has been nothing short of tumultuous, with emotions running high as he grappled with challenges on the track. Following a difficult Sprint section of the event, where he found himself at the back of the grid after a spin, the driver secured the 18th spot in qualifying. However, his struggles extend beyond this race, with a string of disappointing performances including five non-scores, four of which ended in Did Not Finish (DNF) results in the last six races. The lone bright spot in this dark period was a third-place finish in Canada.

Amidst his battle for confidence in his car, Antonelli hinted after qualifying that Mercedes would be making modifications to the vehicle, breaching parc ferme conditions and consequently incurring a pit-lane start penalty.

Sources indicate that Mercedes will be installing a new power unit in Antonelli’s car, replacing the one lost due to an engine failure in Spain. This new unit is the one being utilized at Spa, a move that has yet to receive official confirmation from the FIA.

As the tension mounts in the world of Formula 1, all eyes are on the unfolding drama at the Belgian Grand Prix. Stay tuned for more updates on this gripping development.
