The ‘RECAP’ – Lando Norris Wins Abu Dhabi, Verstappen Secures Championship, and Hamilton Bids Farewell to Mercedes, what’s next for 2025 ?

The 2024 Formula 1 season wrapped up in Abu Dhabi with a mix of triumph, farewells, and fresh controversies. While Lando Norris clinched victory in the final race, it wasn’t enough to stop Max Verstappen from adding yet another World Championship to his glittering résumé. McLaren, however, walked away with the Constructors’ Championship, firmly stamping their authority on the season.

But the real emotional crescendo came not from the podium but from the end of an era: Lewis Hamilton’s final race for Mercedes, a team he’s called home for 12 years. Despite a turbulent season marked by frustrations and struggles, Hamilton delivered a spirited performance, finishing fourth after starting 16th on the grid.

Hamilton Reflects on His Mercedes Legacy

Speaking after the race, Hamilton described his emotions as bittersweet:

“It’s been a really turbulent year, but I feel I’ve finished on a high. These 12 years with Mercedes have been incredible, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together.”

The seven-time world champion crouched by his Mercedes car after crossing the line, an emotional moment that spoke volumes. Fans watching around the world saw a driver reflecting on an extraordinary partnership that delivered a record six drivers’ titles and eight consecutive constructors’ titles.

While Hamilton acknowledged the highs, there’s no denying the lows of recent seasons, particularly his controversial loss of an eighth championship in 2021, a moment that still sparks debates among fans and pundits alike.

Mercedes’ Decline and Hamilton’s Ferrari Move

Hamilton’s decision to leave Mercedes for Ferrari had loomed large throughout the 2024 season. After a string of challenging years for the Silver Arrows—marked by porpoising issues and ongoing car development struggles—Hamilton finally decided to chase new opportunities at Ferrari. The move represents a gamble, but for a driver of Hamilton’s caliber, it’s also a chance to rekindle the flame of competition with fresh challenges.

“Whatever was truly behind his decision remains open for debate,” one fan commented, summing up the mystery surrounding his switch. However, Hamilton’s sentiment was clear: he wants to “go out on a high” with Ferrari and perhaps rewrite the closing chapters of his F1 career.

A Season of Highs, Lows, and Rivalries

This year wasn’t short on off-track drama, with fiery rivalries among drivers and tensions with the FIA dominating headlines. Verstappen, despite his championship win, reignited debates over “British bias” in the sport, particularly in his rivalry with Norris and the British media’s coverage of his success. Meanwhile, Norris’ consistent performances kept McLaren in the title fight, and his win in Abu Dhabi solidified his place as one of the brightest stars on the grid.

What’s Next for 2025?

As the sport enters a new chapter, the grid faces significant shake-ups. Hamilton dons Ferrari red, McLaren aims to build on its newfound dominance, and Mercedes prepares for a new era with George Russell as the team leader alongside 18-year-old rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

The 2025 season promises to be a spectacle with the rekindling of old rivalries and the dawn of fresh ones. For Hamilton, it’s a chance to close the book on an illustrious career with a flourish—or perhaps to write an entirely unexpected final chapter. The question remains: can the Prancing Horse deliver the glory that eluded Hamilton in recent years?

One thing is certain: the world will be watching.
