Lando Norris arrisca volta para garantir pole position no F1 Sprint da China.

Lando Norris, the British driver from McLaren, celebrated his first place achievement in the parc fermé of the Sprint qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix. Norris took a risk by completing a crucial final lap to secure pole position for the race.

Despite McLaren’s expectations of a challenging race weekend due to the characteristics of the Shanghai track, Norris remained competitive in all sessions.

During the second segment of the Sprint qualifying, rain occurred, resulting in wet conditions for the final part of the session. Norris took advantage of these conditions and managed to secure first place with a significant lead of 1.2 seconds over Lewis Hamilton.

However, Norris initially faced a setback when his fastest lap time was deleted for going off track in the last corner. This exclusion also affected his pole position, but was later reinstated.

Reflecting on his achievement, Norris expressed his happiness and gratitude to his team. He acknowledged the challenging nature of the session, especially with the expectation of rain before qualifying.

Despite feeling confident in dry conditions and the overall pace of the team throughout the weekend, Norris admitted to feeling nervous. He emphasized the need to take risks and push to warm up the tires and maintain a competitive advantage.

Norris also mentioned his difficulty in catching up to Ferrari, which forced him to retreat and not perform well in the first two laps. However, he managed to deliver a strong final lap, securing pole position and ultimately feeling satisfied with his performance.

Although Norris acknowledged that it was not a conventional qualifying session, he expressed contentment with the result. He admitted feeling anxious when he decided to abandon his previous laps due to worsening precipitation, knowing he had only one final lap to make it count.

“But the weather conditions worsened during the last two laps, getting wetter and wetter. This made me a bit nervous as I started to feel aquaplaning and made some mistakes. However, it was also an exciting experience. Despite these challenges, we managed to come out on top, exactly what we were aiming for.

Tomorrow, I will be starting at the front of the grid in the Sprint for the second time. Regardless of the weather conditions, I have confidence in the pace of McLaren. It’s hard to predict what will happen tomorrow, but we did some preparations this morning, completing consecutive laps to get a better understanding.

If the weather is similar to today, with a chance of rain, then I believe our chances are relatively good. However, the race is a different challenge compared to qualifying, and I hope other teams will close the gap. Nevertheless, our pace is strong, whether wet or dry, and we find ourselves in a favorable position.

Overall, it was a pleasant surprise and I am incredibly happy. The team did a fantastic job, the car is great, and I am feeling confident. All our hard work is paying off.”
