Lando Norris Pokes Fun at F1’s Glitzy 75th Anniversary Event: “I’d Rather Be at Home”

Lando Norris is heading to the F1 75 launch event—but not without a few jabs at the spectacle. As Formula 1 prepares for a glamorous, star-studded livery reveal in London, Norris made it clear that he’d rather be anywhere else—preferably on vacation like Max Verstappen.

With all 10 teams and 20 drivers gathering at the London O2 Arena for a brief seven-minute showcase of their 2025 challengers, the event is meant to celebrate the sport’s 75th anniversary. But while F1 is embracing the glitz and glamor, Norris—ever the realist—joked about the absurdity of it all.

Norris’ Hilarious Take on Seeing Verstappen at the Event

When asked about his reaction to attending the launch, Norris kept his response dry, sarcastic, and brutally honest.

“If I get told to be there, I guess I’ll be there, you know?” he said, shrugging off the importance of the event. “I might see where Max is going on holiday and join him. We might end up having the same illness or something.”

The offhand joke about ‘catching the same illness’ as Verstappen was a clear dig at the frequent vacations and relaxed off-season that Norris’ primary rival enjoys. But behind the humor, the competitive tension is real—with Norris expected to challenge Verstappen for the 2025 title, this meeting of F1’s rising star and its reigning champion is a preview of the battle ahead.

Norris: “I’d Rather Be at Home”

Formula 1’s 75th anniversary celebrations are set to be one of the biggest marketing spectacles in the sport’s history. But not all drivers are thrilled about it—especially Norris.

The McLaren driver has never been one for the spotlight, and this event is exactly the kind of corporate-driven, glitzy showmanship that doesn’t interest him.

“I don’t know the layout of events, but I’d rather be at home relaxing and preparing for the season,” Norris admitted. “I don’t like these types of things. I’m not a public person. I like to relax and do my things, but it’s also our job. So at the end of the day, we can’t complain.”

This frustration is shared by many drivers who see these massive media events as distractions from their real work—preparing for the most competitive F1 season in years.

F1’s Biggest Season Yet—But Will Norris and Verstappen Steal the Show?

Despite the glamorous kickoff, the real action begins on track. With McLaren’s resurgence and Norris inching closer to his first Grand Prix win, the 2025 season is shaping up to be a blockbuster year.

With Formula 1 turning 75, the pressure is on—not just for Norris, but for every team and driver on the grid.

The question is: Can Norris turn his witty sarcasm into a serious championship challenge?
