Lando Norris has stated that McLaren has suffered significant consequences in the championship race this season due to his minor errors.
The McLaren driver has reflected on his shortcomings in the first half of the 2024 F1 season. Currently in second place in the drivers championship with 199 points, Norris acknowledges that he has found improved speed and skill compared to previous seasons with the Papayas. However, his faulty decisions at crucial moments have had severe repercussions.
Norris has identified his mistakes this season as being somewhat costly in the grand scheme of things. He also admits that his failure to start races strongly has been a major factor contributing to his shortcomings on the race track.
Despite consistently competing at the front, Norris has only achieved one victory in 2024. As the season resumes after the summer break, the 24-year-old hopes to enhance his performances in order to mount a strong challenge for the world title.
McLaren and its driver have established their priorities for the remainder of the season. Oscar Piastri, a member of the team, has emphasized that securing the constructor’s title is their primary objective.
Piastri commends McLaren for narrowing the gap to Red Bull, the current leaders in the championship. He believes that the Papayas have a strong chance of winning the prestigious title for the first time in over 26 years.
With 14 races completed, McLaren trails Red Bull by 42 points. The remaining 10 races will serve as a significant test for the team as they strive to extract maximum performance from the MCL38 on different F1 tracks.
