Lando Norris Sets His Sights on Overcoming McLaren’s One-Lap Woes Ahead of F1 2026!
In the cutthroat world of Formula 1, every millisecond counts, and Lando Norris is determined to conquer the one-lap struggles that have plagued him this season. The British driver, who has recently found himself in a fierce championship battle with teammate Oscar Piastri, is adamant about addressing these issues as McLaren gears up for the 2026 season.
Norris, who faced a disheartening DNF at the Zandvoort Grand Prix in late August, has staged a remarkable comeback. He has not only reignited his competitive spirit but has also surged back to the top of the Drivers’ standings, a position he hasn’t held since Bahrain back in April. With the support of a revitalized Max Verstappen, Norris is ready to reclaim his dominance on the track.
While both he and Piastri share the same number of pole positions this year, Norris has voiced his frustration over the MCL39’s performance during qualifying. His stunning pole lap in Mexico City, which led to a commanding victory, stands out as an anomaly in his quest for consistency. “From focusing on myself and just knowing what I feel like I can do and what I can get out of the car, at times, I certainly still feel like I could do better last year and I could achieve more consistently good laps,” Norris expressed, emphasizing his struggle to replicate his previous success.
He reflected on his past performances, stating, “There were many laps I did last year where I came out and I felt pretty confident that no one could be that lap. I don’t really think I’ve achieved that this year, maybe once in Monaco—it was probably one of the best laps I’ve done.” The pressure is mounting as he aims to tackle the shortcomings he experienced at the beginning of this season and ensure that the next iteration of McLaren’s car meets his high expectations.
Norris isn’t just focusing on his own performance; he’s also acknowledging the impressive development of his teammate Piastri. Despite experiencing a dip in form, Piastri’s growth from his rookie season to now has been remarkable. “But of course, I’m not taking away anything from the fact that Oscar has improved from last year,” Norris commented. “It’s his third season in F1 and he’s doing an incredible job. I’ll never take anything away from that fact.”
As the countdown to the 2026 season begins, McLaren finds itself at a pivotal crossroads. With Norris leading the charge and an eye on rectifying their qualifying woes, the team is poised for a thrilling showdown. Will they rise to the occasion and deliver a car that can consistently compete at the highest level? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure—Lando Norris is ready to tackle the challenges ahead and reclaim his rightful place among F1’s elite!
