Lando Norris Blasts Off Controversial Collision with Oscar Piastri: “It’s Just Racing!”

In a dramatic showdown at the Singapore Grand Prix, Lando Norris has firmly brushed aside any accusations of wrongdoing following his contentious opening-lap clash with teammate Oscar Piastri. The tension unfolded at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, where a fierce battle for position led to contact between the two McLaren drivers at Turn 3. But what really ignited this collision? Norris had previously made contact with Max Verstappen, damaging his front wing and inadvertently pushing him into Piastri’s path.

Amidst a backdrop of racing chaos, Piastri expressed his frustrations over team radio, unaware of the chain of events that had set the stage for the incident. Despite his discontent, McLaren chose not to take action, and the FIA stewards ultimately dismissed the need for an investigation. The aftermath saw Norris securing a commendable third place, while Piastri trailed closely in fourth. This clash has now narrowed Piastri’s lead in the F1 drivers’ championship to a mere 22 points with just six races remaining in the season.

Post-race, a visibly fatigued Norris, who battled illness in the lead-up to the event, opened up about the grueling 62-lap race. When quizzed on how he felt after the challenging contest, the 25-year-old shared, “Yeah, not too bad, not too bad. I could go again. It was a tough race. Max didn’t make any mistakes.” He acknowledged the fierce competition, stating, “Whether I was feeling good or not, I gave it my all today, and got close with a few chances where we were side by side.”

However, the Briton lamented the lack of overtaking opportunities, which he felt hindered his ability to put pressure on rival George Russell. Yet, amidst the competitive spirit, Norris beamed with pride as McLaren clinched its second consecutive constructors’ championship—an achievement not seen since 1991. “I’m happy with today; I got forward two positions. We won as a team, the constructors, once again. So I’m most happy about that,” he declared.

When pressed for his perspective on the collision with Piastri, Norris remained unfazed, labeling the incident as nothing more than “good racing” amidst slippery conditions. “Yeah, I mean, it was slippery [and] still wet in a lot of places, but it’s racing,” he explained. “I put it on the inside, had a small correction, but nothing more than that. It was good racing.”

Reflecting on the race, Norris expressed his desire for more overtaking opportunities, admitting, “I wish I could have given a little bit more. I feel like I did everything I could today, and I’m happy with that.”

As the F1 world buzzes with opinions about the Norris-Piastri incident, one thing is clear: the rivalry within McLaren is heating up, and fans are left wondering what the remaining races of the season will bring.
