Lando Norris admite ter excedido a velocidade limite em Miami.

Lando Norris, McLaren driver, expressed his frustration with the track conditions at the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix. He explained that a difference of just one kilometer per hour could determine whether a driver would stay within the limits or exceed them. Norris struggled with tire temperatures when using the softer compound during the Sprint Qualifying, which prevented him from achieving the best times in the first two stages. This issue affected both Norris and his teammate Oscar Piastri, resulting in their qualifying on the third row. Norris initially tried to use the Medium compound, but switched back to the Soft on his final lap, securing fifth place on the starting grid. Despite feeling more confident with the Medium compound, Norris believes there wasn’t much performance difference between the two. Unfortunately, he couldn’t use the Medium compound on his final attempt to secure pole position due to a lack of new sets. However, Norris believes he would have achieved the same time regardless and recognizes that each compound has its own advantages and disadvantages.

“But you have to drive them a little differently and their advantages and disadvantages are a little different.”

“So taking advantage of those areas is how I understand now what the Soft tires are great for.”

“So you can take advantage of the Softs and find a new set of Mediums, I believe I could have taken that even further.”

Max Verstappen secured pole position, but expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of his Red Bull car, especially in relation to tire performance throughout the weekend.

When asked if there were variations between laps, Norris acknowledged that the delicate nature of the tires made it challenging to push to the absolute limit without exceeding it.

“I believe so,” he replied. “I think there is a small distinction that makes a significant impact. The tires remain the same.”

“You enter a corner with two kilometers per hour more, or even just one kilometer per hour more, and that can be the difference between being on the limit and exceeding it. That’s when you start to feel the variation from one lap to another.”

“Braking five meters later, or even just two meters later, you may find yourself on the limit and think: ‘Ah, that was good, I feel like I can go further.’ But if you brake two meters later and think: ‘Ah, now I’ve exceeded the limit.'”

Norris suspects that the high temperatures and the track surface at the Miami International Speedway have contributed to the challenges faced by the drivers.

“I believe it is mainly due to the heat,” he emphasized. “Yes, it makes things even more complicated. The track surface may also play a role.”

“But I think everyone is in the same situation. Everyone is experiencing inconsistencies and ups and downs.”

“So, occasionally, someone manages to deliver an exceptional lap simply because everything fits together and they drive just below the limit, achieving perfection.”

“But no, there is nothing wrong with the tires. I’m sure Max is aware of this. It’s just that if you push just one percent more, you instantly lose a tenth or even a tenth and a half.”
