Aston Martin F1 Team Warned by FIA Over Lance Stroll’s Protocol Breach Amid Injury Scandal

In a shocking turn of events, Aston Martin F1 team has been issued a formal warning by the FIA due to driver Lance Stroll’s failure to adhere to Formula 1’s strict weighing protocol following the Spanish Grand Prix qualifying session. Despite Stroll’s subsequent withdrawal from the race, the controversy surrounding his actions has sent shockwaves through the F1 community.

Stroll, who was eliminated in Q2 at Barcelona, was obligated to undergo weighing immediately after the qualifying session as per F1 regulations. However, technical delegate Jo Bauer discovered that Stroll deviated from the protocol by spending five minutes in the garage before leaving through the back instead of proceeding directly to the FIA scales via the pitlane.

Reports from the paddock suggested that Stroll’s behavior in the garage hinted at his frustration over the Q2 exit, with a team spokesperson only vaguely mentioning that “Lance was upset.” The stewards called for a hearing on Saturday evening, which Stroll was unable to attend due to a medical condition. It was later revealed that Stroll would be withdrawing from the race due to a “serious” medical issue concerning his hand and wrist.

Aston Martin disclosed that Stroll had been battling pain in his hand and wrist for the past six weeks and would undergo a procedure to address the issue. The stewards, after reviewing medical reports and a letter from Stroll detailing his condition, acknowledged the legitimacy of his medical concerns and the necessity for him to seek urgent attention.

Despite the extenuating circumstances surrounding Stroll’s withdrawal from the race, the FIA stewards emphasized the importance of adhering to weighing procedures to maintain fairness and equity in the sport. Aston Martin, although escaping severe penalties like disqualification due to Stroll’s absence from the race, was issued a warning for not promptly informing the FIA about Stroll’s medical condition.

Stroll’s injury, reportedly stemming from a previous procedure in 2023 following a cycling accident, has raised questions about his overall fitness and readiness to compete in upcoming races. With uncertainty looming over Stroll’s recovery timeline and Aston Martin’s handling of the situation, the F1 community eagerly anticipates his return to the track, especially with his home race in Canada just around the corner.
