Aston Martin Racing Team Faces Uncertainty over Lance Stroll’s Return to F1
In a shocking turn of events, Lance Stroll has withdrawn from the Spanish Grand Prix due to ongoing hand and wrist pains stemming from a bicycle accident he suffered in 2023. Aston Martin has confirmed that he recently underwent wrist surgery, but his participation in his home Grand Prix in Canada remains up in the air.
Team Principal Mike Krack revealed that despite Stroll mentioning occasional discomfort in recent weeks, the severity of the issue only became apparent after the Spanish qualifying session. Following this, Stroll and his team opted to seek further medical advice, with doctors advising against him racing.
“We will have to see what the next few days hold for us. I understand that there will be more tests, more checks in the coming days, and we will know more in the next few days,” stated Krack. “At the moment, it’s really hard to say how it will be and what will happen in the next few days, but we will find out.”
Stroll is set to undergo additional examinations in the coming days, with the team eagerly awaiting updates on his condition. Should he be unable to compete in Canada, Aston Martin may call upon reserve drivers Felipe Drugovich or Stoffel Vandoorne, although both are currently slated to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, conflicting with the Canadian Grand Prix. Valtteri Bottas has also been mentioned as a potential candidate for the coveted spot.
