Lamborghini has already announced that it intends to launch its first 100% electric model in 2028, making it clear that it is not a traditional supercar.
Now in an interview with Bloomberg, Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini, revealed hesitancy in this step due to an incipient demand for 100% electric supercars. “It’s still very early and we will have to see in the future if and when this will happen”, emphasized Stephan Winkelmann.
In this sense, Lamborghini plans to adopt a wait-and-see approach, continuing in the near future to focus on supercars with plug-in hybrid engines.
For the CEO of Lamborghini, the lack of demand for electric supercars is not due to lack of performance, but rather the lack of emotional aspect of gasoline-powered supercars, as the “sound of a Lamborghini Huracán V-10 engine is something that a 100% electric model cannot replicate”.
Stephan Winkelmann’s comments come after CEO and founder of the Rimac Group, Mate Rimac, revealed in early May at a conference in London that high-tech segment customers prefer a more emotional and analog experience, which according to Mate Rimac justifies the low demand for the electric hypercar Nevera, which failed to sell out the limited production of 150 units despite being launched in 2021.
Recorde-se que a Lamborghini apresentou em 2023 o protótipo Lanzador, que disse ser a visão da marca do primeiro modelo totalmente elétrico que está previsto chegar ao mercado em 2028.
