Kyle Petty Hits the Airwaves: NASCAR Legend Joins Country Radio in New Career Move

Driver Kyle Petty checks the speed of other drivers during qualifying trials for the Nashville Pepsi 420 NASCAR Grand National race at Nashville International Raceway July 13, 1984. Petty will start in the 15th spot in the race. Title Auto Racing In 1984

Kyle Petty has always been a man of many talents. From racing royalty to NASCAR analyst, he’s never been one to shy away from trying something new. But now, in a bold career pivot, the eight-time Cup Series winner is trading in his fire suit for a microphone—and diving headfirst into country radio.

Petty is set to join Beasley Media’s “Country 103.7”, teaming up with popular WSOC Charlotte radio hosts Charlie and Debbie Nance for a weekly countdown show revisiting country music’s top 12 songs. The program, titled Back Then Again with Kyle Petty, won’t just feature music—it will also weave in historical anecdotes, stories, and NASCAR connections, blending Petty’s deep love for racing, country music, and storytelling.

From the Fast Lane to the Airwaves

Kyle Petty’s passion for country music isn’t new. Growing up in Level Cross, N.C., the son of NASCAR icon Richard Petty was just as enthralled by Marty Robbins singing at the Grand Ole Opry as he was by Robbins racing stock cars.

Petty reflected on how Robbins—who famously balanced music and NASCAR—inspired him:
🗣️ “Watching Marty Robbins sing at the Opry and drive a race car opened up a world of possibilities for a 12-year-old from Level Cross, N.C. I have been blessed to do both in my life.”

While Petty’s racing career saw him notch 173 top-10 finishes over three decades, he has since built a second career as a respected NASCAR commentator on NBC Sports. Now, this radio venture marks yet another exciting chapter in his post-racing journey.

🗣️ “I am as excited for this new chapter as I ever was at the start of every new NASCAR season,” Petty shared. “Everyone knows I love racing, but I have loved country music for just as long.”

A Perfect Collaboration: NASCAR & Country Music

Petty will co-host the show alongside Charlie and Debbie Nance, longtime voices in Charlotte’s country music scene. Together, they aim to bring fans a blend of great music and nostalgic storytelling—something Petty is known for in the NASCAR community.

The Nances expressed their excitement about working with a racing legend:
🗣️ “We are beyond thrilled to team up with PRN and Kyle Petty for this exciting new project. NASCAR and country music have always shared a loyal fan base, so this collaboration makes perfect sense.”

They also acknowledged the weight of the Petty name in NASCAR history, calling it an honor to work alongside a member of racing royalty.

🗣️ “You can’t mention NASCAR without immediately thinking of the Petty name. So, having the opportunity to partner with Kyle Petty is truly an honor. We’re already having so much fun working together, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

More Than Just a Countdown Show

This new career move isn’t just a nostalgic side gig for Petty—it’s a full embrace of another lifelong passion. Back Then Again with Kyle Petty is set to:

✔️ Count down the top 12 classic country songs 🎶
✔️ Feature Petty’s storytelling skills, weaving in NASCAR memories and music history 🏁
✔️ Appeal to both NASCAR fans and country music lovers alike 🤠
✔️ Showcase Petty’s natural charisma and love for entertainment 🎙️

And while this radio endeavor takes center stage, Petty isn’t leaving NASCAR entirely. Fans can still expect to see him providing insightful race analysis during the Cup Series season.

Kyle Petty: The Ultimate Renaissance Man

From the track to the broadcast booth, from guitars to gas pedals, Kyle Petty has done it all. His transition to radio is just another testament to his versatility and passion for storytelling. Whether it’s sharing NASCAR wisdom or taking fans down memory lane with classic country hits, Petty’s voice remains one of the most beloved in both sports and entertainment.

📻 Will you be tuning in to Kyle Petty’s new country radio show? 🎶🏁
