Kyle Larson shares his backup plan for the Indianapolis 500.
The highly anticipated debut of Kyle Larson from Hendrick Motorsports in the IndyCar series is about to happen at the prestigious Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Representing Arrow McLaren, Larson will be driving the car sponsored by HendricCars.com, and many in the racing community believe he has a strong chance of contending for the win in the race.
However, the week of the Indy 500 presents a challenge for Larson, as he will have to quickly travel to Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600, the longest race on the Cup calendar, immediately after the Brickyard race. Before this weekend’s Cup race in Darlington, the current 2021 Champion was asked about his plan in case of a rain delay at Indy.
Larson, driving for Chevy, confirmed that if the Indy 500 experiences a significant delay, he would choose to skip the race and compete at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He emphasized that the Coca-Cola 600 has higher priority for him as it could determine his chances of securing a second Cup Series title.
Furthermore, Larson revealed that in the event of such unfortunate circumstances, he would be replaced by a legendary driver who coached him during his training for the Indy 500. Larson hopes not to have to exit the Indy 500 in this manner.
