Kyle Larson Ready to Tackle Tough Round of 8 with Confidence: ‘We’ve Been Fast All Season

2021 NASCAR Cup champion Kyle Larson is heading into the penultimate round of the 2024 playoffs with a renewed sense of confidence. After a season marked by dominance, consistency, and six race wins—the most of any driver this year—the Hendrick Motorsports driver is eyeing a spot in the Championship 4 and believes his No. 5 Chevy team has what it takes to get there.

Reflecting on his team’s performance throughout the season, Larson emphasized the combination of speed, experience, and resilience that has made them a formidable contender in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series.

“Our team will make the Championship 4 because we’re fast, we’ve been there a few different times already so we have the experience of knowing what it takes,” Larson said. “I think our team does a good job of overcoming adversity when it’s in front of us.”

Indeed, Larson’s six wins this season, spread evenly across various types of tracks, underline his adaptability and the team’s ability to perform under pressure. From superspeedways to road courses, Larson has proven he’s more than capable of taking on any challenge—something he’ll need to replicate in the grueling Round of 8.

As the competition heats up, Larson will need to maintain his edge, especially with strong competitors like William Byron and Denny Hamlin also vying for a spot in the Championship 4. Although many in the racing community see Larson as the favorite to take home his second Cup title, the playoffs are unpredictable, and he’ll need to maximize his points while leveraging the positive momentum from his recent win at the Charlotte Roval.

Larson’s victory at the Roval was particularly special, not just for the dominant performance, but for the emotional boost it provided. With his entire family present at the track to celebrate with him, Larson shared how the win was made even more meaningful by having his loved ones there to witness it.

“It just makes it really great when you can win at the Charlotte Roval and everybody sacrifices so much time away from their families,” Larson explained. “So when they bring their wives and kids to the racetrack and then you get lucky enough to win that day and get to give those memories forever, it’s great. It’s always fun.”

With that win behind him, Larson and his team are now fully focused on the Round of 8, which is expected to be one of the toughest in recent memory. The next few weeks will be crucial as Larson prepares to tackle tracks like Martinsville and Homestead, which will test not only his driving skills but the strategic capabilities of his entire team.

For now, Larson’s confidence is high, and his team’s consistency and speed throughout the year suggest that they are more than capable of securing a spot in the Championship 4. As the playoffs inch closer to their conclusion, all eyes will be on Larson to see if he can execute under pressure and add another title to his already impressive NASCAR resume.
