Kyle Larson expressed a mix of pride and disappointment in his first race at the Indy 500. Competing under the sponsorship of HendrickCars.Com and driving an Arrow McLaren Chevy for Hendrick Motorsports, Larson’s plans were thwarted by bad weather. The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion had to deal with a delay due to rain that caused a prolonged postponement of the Indy 500.
Larson’s debut in the race did not meet his expectations, finishing in 18th place despite starting in 5th position and having a strong car. He couldn’t help but feel disappointed, especially when his McLaren teammate secured second place. However, he acknowledged the result before heading to Charlotte for the Coca Cola 600 and admitted to being quite upset.
Although the result was disheartening, Larson should not let himself be discouraged. If it weren’t for a speeding penalty that put him a lap down, he could have achieved a better result at the Brickyard. The rain delay and surrounding drama may have contributed to his current feelings, considering the hard work he has put in over the past two years.
Despite the disappointment, Larson remains open to the possibility of racing in the Indy 500 again, if given the chance. When asked about it, he expressed his desire to participate in the event and try “The Double” in the future.
It would be exciting to see Kyle Larson make another attempt at the Indy 500 next year, especially since rain ruined his plans for the 2024 Double. Although his participation in 2025 may not generate the same level of excitement as his debut, there are still plenty of opportunities for NASCAR, IndyCar, and HMS to explore if he is given another chance.
