Young Phenom Kyle Kirkwood Dominates IndyCar Practice at Road America
In an electrifying display of skill and speed, Kyle Kirkwood from Andretti Global stole the show during the 70-minute practice session at Road America. Kirkwood blazed through the 4-mile, 14-turn road course with a best lap time of 1:44.9881, leaving his competitors in the dust.
Devlin DeFrancesco of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing trailed behind Kirkwood, coming in second with a time of 1:45.1414, while the defending Road America champion, Will Power of Team Penske, secured the third spot at 1:45.1795.
The practice session kicked off slowly as teams strategized their approach to the challenging track. With the temperature soaring to 83 degrees ambient and 111.6 degrees Fahrenheit on the track, drivers faced an additional hurdle in managing tire wear along with the fierce competition.
Despite some off-road excursions by DeFrancesco through Turn 5 and Turn 14, the drivers pushed the limits of their cars, aiming for the top spot. Santino Ferrucci of A.J. Foyt Racing briefly claimed the lead before Kirkwood’s spectacular performance propelled him to the forefront.
With only minutes remaining, Alexander Rossi found himself stuck in the gravel, prompting a red flag and a thrilling final flying lap. As the session concluded, Kirkwood’s dominance remained unchallenged, cementing his status as a rising star in the world of IndyCar racing.
Stay tuned for more heart-pounding action as these drivers battle it out on the track for glory and victory.
