Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Kyle Busch, is not holding back when it comes to his thoughts on the new promoter caution rule introduced for this year’s All-Star Race. The rule allows Speedway Motorsports CEO Marcus Smith to throw a caution at any point before Lap 220 of the 250-lap race, sparking controversy and confusion among drivers and fans alike.

Busch, who claimed victory at the All-Star Race in 2017, expressed his disbelief, questioning, “What are we doing?” He even went as far as comparing the race to a circus act, suggesting that if the event is to resemble Bailey and Barnum, then it should be named as such. The NASCAR star’s candid remarks reflect the skepticism surrounding the new rule and its impact on the integrity of the competition.

The All-Star Race has a history of experimenting with unconventional ideas, but the promoter caution has raised significant concerns within the racing community. The power granted to Smith to manipulate the race dynamics adds an unpredictable element that some argue may detract from the sport’s essence of skill and strategy.

During a recent appearance on the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Busch’s blunt criticism shed light on the divisive nature of the new rule. The discussion between Busch and co-host Freddie Kraft delved into the implications of the promoter caution and its potential effects on the race outcomes. Kraft even humorously suggested letting a drunk fan decide the fate of the caution, emphasizing the absurdity of such a discretionary rule in a professional racing event.

Despite the controversy, the All-Star Race is set to take place at North Wilkesboro Speedway for the third consecutive year, following the track’s revival under Speedway Motorsports ownership. The upcoming race format includes a competition caution around Lap 100, adding another layer of complexity to an already contentious rule change.

As the NASCAR community grapples with the implications of the promoter caution, the spotlight remains on how this unprecedented rule will shape the outcome of one of the sport’s most anticipated events. With drivers like Kyle Busch openly questioning the decision, the All-Star Race is gearing up to be a battleground of opinions and expectations, where only time will reveal the true impact of this controversial change.
