Kyle Busch, driver for Richard Childress Racing (RCR), did not hold back in his criticism of Joey Logano after Logano’s harsh comments regarding Austin Dillon’s controversial move that led to a crash at the Cook Out 400 in Richmond. The incident, which saw Dillon wrecking Logano and Denny Hamlin on the final corner to secure a victory, resulted in NASCAR penalizing Dillon by stripping his automatic playoff berth.
Busch, who has had his own share of aggressive on-track encounters with both Logano and Hamlin in the past, was quick to defend his RCR teammate while calling out Logano for his remarks. Logano had criticized Dillon, suggesting that Dillon’s move was desperate and accusing him of lacking talent.
Busch, however, pointed out the irony in Logano’s comments, noting that Logano himself is known for employing similarly aggressive tactics to win races throughout his career. Busch reminded everyone that Logano has been involved in several controversial finishes, including one in the K&N Pro Series race at Irwindale where Logano used a similar move to secure victory.
In a pointed remark, Busch said, “The one that had it happen to him is probably the one that has done it the most. … I guess his comments, he could be calling himself that.” This comment was aimed at highlighting what Busch perceives as a double standard in Logano’s criticism of Dillon, given Logano’s own history of aggressive driving.
Busch’s defense of Dillon and critique of Logano stem not only from his desire to support his teammate but also from the longstanding rivalry between Logano and RCR drivers. The tension between these drivers adds another layer to the ongoing drama in the NASCAR Cup Series, with Busch making it clear that he sees Logano’s comments as hypocritical.
Ultimately, while Busch acknowledged the controversial nature of Dillon’s move, his criticism of Logano’s remarks underscores the complex relationships and rivalries that continue to shape the dynamics within NASCAR.
