Kush Maini Stuns Formula E Field with Lightning-Fast Lap in Jeddah Rookie Test

India’s Kush Maini delivered a statement performance in Jeddah, topping the Formula E rookie test with a blistering lap for Mahindra Racing.

The Formula 2 driver, who competes for DAMS Lucas Oil, adapted seamlessly to the all-electric machinery, setting the pace with a 1:17.184 lap time—three-tenths quicker than Nissan’s Gabriele Mini.

Maini’s Rapid Rise in FE Machinery

While many drivers struggle with the transition from combustion-powered single-seaters to Formula E’s unique electric powertrains, Maini showed impressive adaptability on the high-speed, technical Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

His performance not only highlighted Mahindra Racing’s pace but also cemented his reputation as a rising star across multiple racing categories.

“It’s a great feeling to top the timesheets, especially in a field with so many talented drivers. Formula E is a completely different challenge, but I’ve loved every second of it.” – Kush Maini

Surprise Performances & Notable Names in the Field

🏎️ Mikkel Jansen shocked the paddock by securing third place for Cupra Kiro—his first single-seater outing in nine years!
🏎️ Theo Pourchaire (Maserati MSG) & Daniil Kvyat (DS Penske) followed closely in fourth and fifth, proving their adaptability to Formula E’s demanding style.
🏎️ Super Formula-bound Zak O’Sullivan (Envision Racing) finished sixth, while Porsche’s Thomas Preining landed seventh.
🏎️ Three-time W Series champion Jamie Chadwick (Jaguar TCS) impressed with a P9 finish, reinforcing her potential at higher levels of motorsport.

What’s Next for Maini?

Maini’s stunning pace in Jeddah could open the door for a potential Formula E race seat in the future. With Mahindra’s continued investment in Indian talent, could this be the first step toward a full-time FE switch?

One thing’s for sure—Maini’s performance didn’t go unnoticed.
