Kobayashi guia Toyota para vitória no FIA WEC 6 Horas de Imola.

Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries from Toyota Gazoo Racing emerged victorious at the 6 Hours of Imola, the second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship of 2024. The race was a fierce battle between Toyota, Ferrari, and Porsche. Laurens Vanthoor, Kevin Estre and Andre Lotterer from Porsche finished in second place, while Matt Campbell, Fred Makowiecki and Michael Christensen from Porsche came in third. Ferrari led the race initially but faced setbacks due to a multi-car accident. Despite the challenges, Toyota secured the win after a strategic pit stop and an excellent performance by Kobayashi. Porsche and Ferrari completed the podium.

The race started with Nicklas Nielsen in the Ferrari, who started on pole position, leading the pack, followed by Antonio Giovinazzi in another Ferrari. However, a safety car was deployed early to clear a collision involving multiple cars. The incident affected the performance of the Alpine and BMW cars, while Ferrari took advantage to build a lead. As the race progressed, Miguel Molina from Ferrari climbed back to second place, challenging his teammate James Calado. The battle continued through several yellow flags, with the inexperienced Isotta Fraschini drivers struggling on the Imola circuit.

Rain during the race added to the excitement. Kobayashi, Estre, and Hartley from Toyota and Porsche made a pit stop, while Ferrari decided to stay out on track. However, the wet track favored cars with rain tires, and Kobayashi quickly caught up to the Ferrari cars. Ferrari eventually had to pit, losing valuable time to Kobayashi. Sheldon van der Linde from BMW also pressured the Toyotas, while Campbell from Porsche closed in on the BMW. Ferrari found themselves trailing as Kobayashi extended his lead.

As the track dried out, the teams switched to slick tires. Toyota’s Hartley struggled during the transition and made some mistakes. Campbell seized the opportunity and overtook Toyota. Ferrari took a risk by keeping a car with worn rain tires, but eventually had to pit for slicks. Kobayashi had to manage his pace and fuel consumption in the final part of the race to secure the victory. Porsche’s Estre had a chance to challenge for the win, but received a time penalty for overtaking during a Safety Car period.

In the end, Toyota emerged as the winner on Ferrari’s territory. Porsche finished in second place, followed by Ferrari in third. Fuoco of Ferrari finished fourth after taking advantage of a mistake by Hartley on the final lap. Hartley completed the top five, while BMW’s van der Linde dropped to sixth place after a penalty. The race saw impressive performances from all teams, with Ferrari, Porsche, and Toyota showcasing their skills on the challenging Imola circuit. Peugeot and Cadillac completed the top ten positions.
