Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes left in ruins after terrifying crash!

In a heart-stopping moment at the British Grand Prix, Kimi Antonelli faced a nightmare crash that left his Mercedes in shambles. The collision with Isack Hadjar was so severe that Antonelli was forced to retire, marking his fourth Did Not Finish (DNF) in just six races.

The extent of the damage was jaw-dropping, with Antonelli disclosing that his car lost a whopping “100 points of downforce.” This loss far exceeded what Lewis Hamilton experienced in Canada when he hit a groundhog, resulting in a performance drop of half a second per lap. For Antonelli, this translated to a staggering 2.5-second loss per lap.

Reflecting on the incident, Antonelli expressed his frustrations, stating, “It just seems like everything is going wrong at the moment, and it is hard to find positives.” The risky gamble he took early in the race backfired, leading to further complications when he struggled to regain tire temperature after a pit stop.

The challenging visibility conditions played a significant role in the crash, with Antonelli admitting, “Obviously, the visibility was extremely poor, and I don’t know why, but I could feel it coming.” Despite miraculously keeping the car on track after the massive impact, the damage to the diffuser made it incredibly difficult to control the vehicle.

Interestingly, both drivers, Antonelli and Hadjar, seemed to agree that the crash was somewhat inevitable given the limited visibility. Hadjar remarked, “the crash was quite predictable” under the circumstances, raising doubts about the decision to restart the race in such treacherous conditions.

The Silverstone collision not only caused significant damage to Antonelli’s Mercedes but also highlighted the risks drivers face in challenging weather conditions. As the racing world grapples with the aftermath of this intense crash, questions linger about the safety measures in place to protect drivers in high-stakes situations like these.
