Kevin Harvick Bids Farewell to Stewart-Haas Racing: An Emotional Goodbye as SHR Closes Its Doors

Stewart-Haas Racing driver Chase Briscoe competes in the NASCAR Xfinity series Pennzoil 150 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 4, 2020. Briscoe won. Indianapolis Motor Speedway Nascar Xfinity Series Pennzoil 150 On July 4 2020 Return To Racing Since Coronavirus Covid 19 Pandemic

The NASCAR world is reeling as one of its most iconic teams, Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), has officially closed its doors. The championship-winning team, co-founded by Tony Stewart, has ceased operations, selling off its three charters and transitioning into the Haas Factory Team under Gene Haas’ sole ownership. As SHR’s era ends, NASCAR champion and former SHR driver Kevin Harvick shared a heartfelt farewell on his podcast, reflecting on the team’s final race at Phoenix.

In a poignant moment, Harvick expressed his gratitude for SHR and the impact it had on his career, especially with Stewart’s presence at the last race. “I’m glad Tony was there to talk to everybody and be part of the last event,” Harvick said, noting that the race, with Riley Herbst’s victory, was a fitting send-off for the team. Now, he’s looking forward to seeing how the Haas Factory Team will perform starting in 2025.

The SHR Legacy: A Unique Environment and “Racer’s Mentality”

For Harvick, SHR was more than just a team; it was a place that embodied the spirit of racing. “It wasn’t like anywhere else,” he said. “It was a racer’s mentality in everything we did.” Harvick, who won the 2014 NASCAR Cup Championship with SHR, praised the team’s supportive environment and the talented people he worked alongside. “Hard to believe that it is gone today,” he admitted, reflecting on the decade he spent with SHR.

A Tough Transition for SHR’s Crew Members

As SHR winds down, the team has prioritized helping its crew members transition to new roles. Yet, Harvick acknowledged the difficult road ahead for these dedicated employees. “Those guys aren’t even allowed back in the shop… their offices have been cleaned out,” he said. Many of the crew members, who had worked at SHR for years, now face the challenging reality of starting fresh, and Harvick empathized with their sense of loss.

A New Chapter: Haas Factory Team Takes Over

Though SHR’s journey has come to an end, the newly formed Haas Factory Team will carry the legacy forward under Gene Haas’ ownership. NASCAR fans may soon see a resurgence from the revamped team, with fresh talent and a renewed drive to uphold SHR’s legacy of success.

For Harvick, SHR’s closure is a bittersweet end to a special chapter in NASCAR history. As he moves forward, he remains hopeful that the Haas Factory Team will continue to build on SHR’s foundations and create a new legacy on the track.
