Kevin Durant Suns Aspect Ratio 512 320 1

As Kevin Durant gears up for his first game back in Brooklyn since his trade to the Phoenix Suns nearly a year ago, the anticipation is mixed with uncertainty. The former Nets star, known for his remarkable tenure and contributions to the team, is unsure of the reception awaiting him from the Brooklyn fans.

Durant’s return is poised to evoke a spectrum of emotions on Wednesday. The crowd could celebrate his achievements and the unforgettable moments he created as a Net, or they might harbor resentment towards his eagerness to leave for another team.

Reflecting on his upcoming Brooklyn visit, Durant shared, “It just depends on how the people wake up. A lot of people don’t know what to say or how to feel about me. It’s up in the air on what may happen.”

The excitement was palpable back in July 2019 when Durant, alongside Kyrie Irving, chose the Nets as free agents. However, their partnership yielded just one playoff series win over their 3 1/2 years with the team. Durant’s requests for trades, especially after Irving’s move to Dallas, underscore the complex legacy he leaves behind.

Despite the mixed feelings, Durant hopes fans will cherish the memories and milestones achieved during his time with the Nets, including setting a franchise record with an average of 29.9 points per game in the 2021-22 season and his standout performances in the playoffs against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Nets’ journey with Durant was fraught with challenges, from injuries to controversies, including Irving’s vaccination stance and Harden’s trade. Yet, Durant recalls the last season as “some of the funnest basketball I ever played,” highlighting the team’s resilience and camaraderie amidst adversity.

Now with the Suns, Durant’s departure has left a void in Brooklyn, evident in the team’s current struggles. As he prepares to face his former team and fans, Durant remains open-minded, focusing on the joy of the game rather than the reaction of the crowd.

“I never know how people are going to react,” Durant said. “I don’t expect anything from anyone. I just want them to do whatever they do that’s going to allow them to have some fun that night.”

Durant’s return to Brooklyn is not just a game; it’s a moment of reflection for both the player and the fans, marking a reunion filled with anticipation and unpredictability.
