The Golden State Warriors are struggling in the NBA season, unable to find a solution to their poor performance. As a result, they have remained the 12th seed in the Western Conference for most of the season. However, things took a positive turn during their Friday night matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies. The entire Warriors team played well, but it was Jonathan Kuminga who stole the show. In 37 minutes of playing time, Kuminga scored an impressive 29 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists.
NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins couldn’t help but react to Kuminga’s sensational performance. Taking to his official Twitter handle, Perkins expressed his satisfaction with Warriors head coach Steve Kerr finally allowing Kuminga to play his natural game. Perkins tweeted, “Steve Kerr finally came to his senses!!! Let this young fella be great. Carry the hell on…”
Perkins’ comments hold some validity. For the first two years of his career, Kuminga saw limited minutes under Kerr’s coaching. However, it seems that Kerr has now recognized Kuminga’s potential and is giving him the opportunity to shine. This decision is proving to be beneficial for both Kuminga and the Warriors in the long run.
To put Kuminga’s recent performances into perspective, he has scored over 20 points in his last eight games of the season. This impressive feat has helped the Warriors improve their record to 21-24. While there is still room for improvement, it is encouraging to see the organization finding its rhythm again, thanks to the outstanding performances of their young forward.
