Katherine Legge Shatters Records in NASCAR, Achieving Top 20 Finish and Making History

In a jaw-dropping display of skill and determination, Katherine Legge has etched her name in the annals of NASCAR history by becoming the first woman since Danica Patrick to achieve a major result in the NASCAR Cup Series. At the electrifying 2025 Chicago Street Race, Legge crossed the finish line in a remarkable 19th place, a feat that had eluded female drivers since Patrick’s stellar performance in 2017.

Legge’s path to glory was nothing short of tumultuous, as she navigated through a harrowing crash during practice and a nail-biting qualifying session that saw her secure a spot just ahead of Corey Heim by a mere fraction of a second. The British professional racing driver described the pressure of qualifying for the Chicago Street Race as even more intense than her experiences at the prestigious Indianapolis 500, citing the rushed practice sessions and the challenging street course as contributing factors.

The groundbreaking news of Legge’s historic achievement spread like wildfire, with Nascarman himself taking to social media to share the monumental moment, declaring, “Katherine Legge finishes the Chicago street race in 19th. She is the first woman to finish top-20 in a NASCAR Cup race since Danica Patrick at Texas in November 2017.”

Not one to rest on her laurels, Legge made her NASCAR Cup Series debut in 2025 at the age of 44, joining Live Fast Motorsports to pilot the No. 78 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 part-time for the season. Her maiden race at Phoenix Raceway in March 2025 marked another milestone as she became the first female driver to compete in a Cup Series event with NASCAR’s Next Gen car, solidifying her status as a trailblazer in the world of motorsports.

In a poignant display of gratitude and empowerment, Legge delivered a stirring speech at a sponsor’s event hosted by e.l.f. Cosmetics prior to her NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway during the Coca-Cola 600 weekend. Expressing her heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering support from e.l.f. and its community, Legge reiterated her unwavering commitment to representing the brand with utmost dedication.

“This feels like an incredibly supportive, empowering situation to be in, and I can’t say enough. I’m beyond grateful. I’m beyond proud to represent Elf, and to have met so many amazing humans,” Legge shared passionately.

Despite facing criticism since entering the realm of NASCAR, Legge made it crystal clear that her performance on the track, not her gender, is the ultimate measure of her prowess as a fierce competitor. With each race, Legge continues to break down barriers and defy expectations, inspiring a new generation of aspiring female drivers to chase their dreams with unwavering tenacity and unyielding determination.
