Katherine Legge Faces Vicious Death Threats: Her Bold Stand Against Online Harassment and Criticism

Katherine Legge talks with the crew as they work on the no. 23 Chevrolet following ARCA practice, Friday February 14, 2025 at Daytona international Speedway.

Katherine Legge Faces Online Backlash and Death Threats After NASCAR Incident

In the cutthroat world of NASCAR, driver Katherine Legge is feeling the heat of online hatred and even death threats following a recent race at Rockingham. The experienced racer opened up about the backlash she received on her podcast, Throttle Therapy, after being spun out by William Sawalich early in the race, causing damage to Kasey Kahne’s car.

The incident ignited a firestorm of criticism on social media, with many comments escalating to disturbing levels. Legge, known for her success in open-wheel and sports car racing, expressed her dismay at the gender-based attacks she faced, emphasizing that while she welcomes constructive feedback, the threatening messages are completely unacceptable. She boldly declared, “I’m here to race and I’m here to compete, and I won’t tolerate any of these threats to my safety or to my dignity. Whether that’s on track or off of it.”

Despite the online vitriol, Legge remains resilient, asserting that she has rightfully earned her place on the racetrack through hard work and dedication. She emphasized that her performance, not her gender, defines her as a competitor, and she is unwavering in her commitment to the sport. Legge also addressed the challenges she faced during the Rockingham weekend, detailing her qualifying struggles and the subsequent race dynamics.

While facing criticism for her performance, Legge showcased her determination by adapting to a new car mid-race and maintaining a competitive pace. She provided a detailed account of the race incident, highlighting her efforts to avoid unnecessary risks and navigate the high-speed environment of NASCAR.

Amid the backlash, Legge found support from fellow racers like Marco Andretti, who condemned the hateful comments directed at her. The incident underscores the pervasive issue of online abuse in male-dominated spaces, with Legge calling for an end to the normalization of such behavior.

As Legge continues to confront the aftermath of the Rockingham race, her unwavering spirit and resilience serve as a testament to her dedication to the sport. Despite the challenges and threats she faces, Legge stands firm in her resolve to overcome adversity and prove her worth on the track.
