In a sensational return to NASCAR, former Hendrick Motorsports driver Kasey Kahne will strap into a stock car for the first time since his final Cup Series appearance in 2018. Kahne, who last competed in the Xfinity Series in 2017, will make his comeback at Rockingham Speedway, a track with a storied history and a special connection to the veteran driver.

Teaming up with Richard Childress Racing (RCR), Kahne will pilot the No. 33 Chevrolet in the Xfinity Series race, marking an exciting addition to RCR’s lineup. This comeback is made even more remarkable by the race itself, as it heralds NASCAR’s long-awaited return to Rockingham Speedway after nearly a decade away. The No. 33 entry will be backed by HendrickCars.com, alongside sponsorship from Chevrolet, Curb Records, and Karavan Trailers.

Kahne’s Nostalgic Connection to The Rock

Kahne has fond memories of Rockingham Speedway, a venue that has played a pivotal role in his career. His last visit to the historic track was a triumphant one, as he captured victory in the 2012 Truck Series race when NASCAR briefly returned to the venue. Now, the veteran is eager to relive those winning moments and embrace the challenge of racing at The Rock once again.

“I’m excited to get back behind the wheel of a stock car, especially at a place like Rockingham Speedway,” Kahne shared in a press release. “Rockingham has been a special track throughout my career. I remember winning the Truck Series race in 2012 when the sport went back there last, so to be a part of the current return is cool.”

The 43-year-old driver, known for his smooth driving style and fierce competitiveness, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return: “I’m very appreciative of the opportunity that Mr. Hendrick, Richard (Childress), and everyone at RCR have given me. I look forward to hitting the track next week for the test.”

A Star-Studded Event at a Revived Venue

The return to Rockingham Speedway is a monumental moment for NASCAR fans and drivers alike. Known for its high tire wear and challenging racing conditions, The Rock has been a fan favorite since its heyday. This race will serve as a nostalgic trip down memory lane while also offering a platform for thrilling on-track battles.

For Kahne, this is more than just a comeback—it’s an opportunity to reignite his love for stock car racing while competing against a new generation of NASCAR stars. His last stint in the Xfinity Series, where he drove the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, saw him claim a second-place finish at Daytona and a solid run at Talladega in 2017.

Building Anticipation for NASCAR’s Future at Rockingham

Kahne’s participation not only elevates the race’s profile but also underscores the significance of NASCAR’s renewed focus on Rockingham. The sport’s leadership has worked tirelessly to revive interest in short tracks and historic venues, and Kahne’s involvement adds credibility and excitement to this effort.

As he takes to the track next week for testing, fans can’t wait to see if Kahne can recreate the magic of his 2012 victory. With a competitive RCR car and the backing of notable sponsors, all eyes will be on the No. 33 Chevy as it tears through the Rockingham asphalt.
