While Rovanpera has previously dabbled in single-seater racing at the Red Bull Ring—where he drove both Formula 4 and Formula Renault 3.5 cars, even taking a spin in a Red Bull Racing RB8 F1 car—the F2 test marks a significant leap toward his future ambitions. Despite yet to test a Super Formula car, he revealed plans to get behind the wheel very soon.
When asked about his unconventional path to Formula 1, Rovanpera explained, “I think the point was we can build the best schedule like this [with Super Formula].” He acknowledged that the Super Formula series features significantly faster cars than Formula 3, presenting a monumental challenge but also the opportunity to adapt to higher speeds and greater G-forces right away. With only seven race weekends scheduled in Super Formula, Rovanpera is keen on maximizing his testing opportunities in Europe to gain invaluable experience.
He added, “The plan is to drive the Super Formula season and then we will be testing as much as we can in Europe and on the GP tracks to get as much experience as possible.” While the future remains uncertain, he hinted that if all goes well, a move to Formula 2 could be on the horizon.
