Leandro Juncos, the son of Ricardo Juncos, co-owner of Juncos Hollinger Racing team, is the latest member of a racing family to enter the American junior open-wheel driver ladder. The 18-year-old, who was born in Miami, Florida, continues the Argentine family’s legacy in the USF Championships’ USF Juniors category, which serves as a stepping stone to USF2000 and Indy Pro 2000.
“I’m incredibly excited about this unique opportunity to honor and carry on my family’s heritage,” expressed Juncos. “My great-grandfather participated in motorcycle racing, my grandfather in National Tourism, and my father in Formula Renault and Sport Prototipo. Now, it’s my turn to showcase the Juncos family’s natural abilities. Motorsport runs through my veins.”
Juncos, whose father manages entries in IndyCar’s Indy NXT series, will be driving for the DEForce team, the dominant organization that secured the 2023 USF Juniors championship with Nicolas Giaffone. Giaffone also comes from a lineage of racers, as his father Felipe competed in IndyCar.
Juncos’ decision to join the USF Championships was solidified after witnessing the JHR team conduct an IndyCar demonstration run towards the end of 2022. “I was present at the TC Race in Argentina, and it further fueled my motivation to make the decision to race,” shared Juncos. “Seeing the JHR Chevy, feeling the surge of adrenaline, and witnessing the passion of the fans were the factors that prompted me to take the leap.”
