Former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya is sounding the alarm for Mercedes, urging them to secure George Russell’s contract before Red Bull swoops in with their deep pockets. Montoya emphasized the urgency of the situation, especially with the looming threat of Max Verstappen potentially leaving his current team.

Russell, who has been labeled as the “most desired person” on the F1 grid without a contract, is currently at the center of intense speculation regarding his future in the sport. Despite facing challenges throughout his F1 career, Montoya commended Russell for his growth and performance on the track.

The 27-year-old British driver, who started his F1 journey with Williams in 2019 before moving to Mercedes in 2022, has been making waves with impressive victories and podium finishes. However, his contract with Mercedes is set to expire at the end of the year, leaving the door open for competitors like Aston Martin and Red Bull to express interest in securing his talents.

Montoya expressed his surprise that Mercedes has not yet secured Russell on a new contract, considering his strong track record and potential. With Red Bull lurking in the background and the uncertainty surrounding Verstappen’s future, Montoya stressed the importance of Mercedes acting swiftly to retain Russell.

As rumors swirl and speculations mount, the F1 community eagerly awaits Mercedes’ next move in the high-stakes game of driver contracts. Will George Russell remain with the Silver Arrows, or will Red Bull make a strategic play to shake up the grid? Only time will tell in this adrenaline-fueled saga of driver negotiations and team dynamics in the world of Formula 1.
