Jacques Villeneuve Slams Jos Verstappen’s “Conspiracy” Claims Against FIA Stewards

While Max Verstappen’s raw talent has propelled him to four Formula 1 World Championships, there’s one figure who has shaped his relentless drive for success more than anyone else—his father, Jos Verstappen.

The 52-year-old former F1 driver remains an influential presence in Max’s life, providing brutally honest feedback and acting as his most trusted advisor. Despite stepping back from direct involvement, Jos still ensures his son stays on the razor’s edge of performance—even if that means delivering hard-hitting criticism when needed.

“I think I’m the one who still tells him honestly what’s going well and what’s not, and he appreciates that,” Jos Verstappen admitted. “That includes criticism. And besides rally, that’s basically my life. Everything revolves around racing anyway.”

The Infamous ‘Tough Love’ That Built a Champion

Jos Verstappen’s controversial parenting methods have long been debated in the F1 world, with many questioning the intense discipline and extreme coaching he imposed on Max from a young age. But for all the criticism he endured, there’s no denying the results—Max Verstappen stands today as one of the most dominant drivers in F1 history.

“At the beginning of his career, I gave him direction, also in Formula 1, and that’s running now,” Jos explained. “He’s old and wise enough to do that himself now.”

While his role has evolved, his presence in Max’s corner remains constant, ensuring the Red Bull superstar never becomes complacent.

From F1 to Rally: Jos Verstappen’s Own Racing Pursuits

Despite being a constant figure in the F1 paddock, Jos Verstappen has not abandoned his own racing ambitions. The former Grand Prix driver has taken on the brutal world of rally racing, where he’s found himself in a completely different battle—against the very instructions meant to guide him.

“I think I had the most trouble with my co-pilot’s directions,” he admitted. “Understanding those notes and someone constantly talking in your ear was harder than the driving itself.”

While the transition to rally racing has been a challenge, Jos remains committed to mastering the discipline, and in doing so, may also expand Max’s understanding of motorsport beyond the world of F1.

A Father-Son Bond Built for Victory

Through triumphs and setbacks, Max Verstappen’s meteoric rise has been forged through the unbreakable partnership with his father. Whether it’s delivering raw critiques, pushing Max to his limits, or immersing himself in different racing disciplines, Jos Verstappen’s influence on his son’s career remains as potent as ever.

One thing is clear—as long as Max Verstappen is fighting for titles, Jos Verstappen will be right there, ensuring he never stops pushing for more.
