The motorsport world is abuzz with the latest turn of events as Jonathan Wheatley, a name synonymous with Red Bull since 2006, is set to embark on a new journey. Red Bull has formally announced Wheatley’s departure from the team, paving the way for his novel role as the team principal of Sauber/Audi’s F1 division.

Wheatley’s tenure with Red Bull, which began in the mid-2000s, was marked by his steady ascent up the ranks, ultimately securing the position of sporting director. However, the lure of new challenges and the opportunity to helm a team as the principal have prompted Wheatley to leave his familiar abode at Red Bull.

The official start date for Wheatley’s new role at Sauber/Audi F1 has been locked in, with the countdown already ticking. His years of experience in the F1 circuit, spanning back to the 1990s, will undoubtedly serve him well as he steps into this new phase of his career.

The automotive world is set to witness a significant shift as Sauber transitions to become the Audi F1 works team under the impending regulatory changes slated for 2026. Wheatley’s leadership will be instrumental in steering this pivotal transformation.

The Sauber/Audi F1 team’s top brass will include Mattia Binotto, who holds the dual role of chief operating officer and chief technical officer. Wheatley and Binotto will be the new leading duo of the team, as they steer it into a promising future.

Wheatley’s debut race as the team principal is less than a month away, and the anticipation is palpable. The motorsport fraternity is eagerly awaiting his performance in Japan, marking the start of this exciting new chapter in his illustrious career. His decision to switch teams and embrace a new role has certainly set the wheels in motion for what promises to be a dynamic and thrilling era in Formula One.
