In the wake of one of NASCAR’s most controversial races, two-time NASCAR Cup champion Joey Logano weighed in on the Martinsville race manipulation drama, voicing concerns over whether NASCAR’s penalties hit the mark. The race saw three drivers caught in a manipulation scandal, accused of working to help their manufacturer teammates reach the coveted Championship 4. NASCAR responded with hefty fines and point deductions, suspending two senior team members for the finale.
During a press conference ahead of the season finale at Phoenix Raceway, Logano gave his take, questioning the effectiveness of the penalties. “The beneficiaries of it are still in it, and nothing happened. You tell me if it was good enough or not,” Logano remarked. “Did it work or did it not? Was it worth it? I don’t know—I’m not NASCAR. I’m just driving cars, and you just hope everyone races fairly.”
Logano, piloting the No. 22 Ford Mustang, expressed hope that the penalties would make drivers think twice about similar tactics. But his focus remained on the championship: rather than dwell on a potential third title, Logano keeps his mindset steady, entering every season with the same championship ambitions. “My goal every year is the same—whether we’ve won one, none, five, it doesn’t matter. The goal is to win the championship,” he said.
With Logano and Team Penske determined to keep their Next-Gen era dominance alive, all eyes are on Sunday’s showdown at Phoenix to see if they can close out the season with another win and avoid any further controversy.
