Joey Logano Drops Bombshell on NASCAR’s Battle Against Race Manipulation

The NASCAR Cup season finale at Phoenix Raceway may have crowned Joey Logano as the new champion, but the Penske driver isn’t letting the dust settle quietly. In a jaw-dropping revelation, Logano exposed NASCAR’s heavy-handed warnings against race manipulation, reigniting concerns about the integrity of the sport.

Fresh off a dramatic playoff series marred by controversy, NASCAR took unprecedented measures to ensure the championship-deciding race was beyond reproach. Following the Martinsville chaos—which saw multiple drivers penalized for alleged manipulation during the Round of 8—NASCAR made it clear they wouldn’t tolerate any foul play in the season finale.

NASCAR’s High-Stakes Threat: No Daytona for Rule-Breakers

Logano, speaking on a podcast alongside a fellow ex-Cup champion, revealed just how far NASCAR went to deter manipulation. According to the newly minted champ, the sanctioning body threatened drivers with suspension from the 2025 Daytona 500 if they were caught unfairly influencing the race.

“They did threaten us before the race,” Logano disclosed. “If anyone manipulates the race somehow, you’re not racing in the Daytona 500 next year. Is that a threat? Is that real? We’ll know if something happened.”

This bombshell raises questions about NASCAR’s enforcement policies and whether such a drastic threat could even be carried out. While no incidents were flagged during the finale, Logano’s comments suggest underlying tensions among competitors and officials over the sport’s credibility.

Chevrolet Drivers Under Fire

Logano didn’t stop at NASCAR’s threats—he turned his attention to some of his fellow competitors, calling out the aggressive behavior of Chevrolet drivers during practice sessions. According to the three-time champion, their tactics bordered on outright sabotage.

“We unload for practice, and the 1 (Ross Chastain) is racing the dog crap out of the 12 (Ryan Blaney) in practice,” Logano said. “The 77 unloads, backs up to me—had a straightaway gap ahead of me—and runs dirty air right in front of me. Killed my run in practice. This is the week after they got dinged for this, and they’re still doing it. They’re not backing off; they’re just not going to talk about it.”

Logano’s accusations imply that manipulation, whether subtle or blatant, remains a pervasive issue, even after NASCAR’s crackdown. His remarks add fuel to the fire of a debate that has loomed over the sport throughout the season: are drivers bending the rules to gain an unfair advantage?

NASCAR’s Battle for Integrity

The Martinsville incident forced NASCAR to suspend and fine three drivers for manipulation, casting a shadow over the championship-deciding race. Logano’s claims suggest that even with stricter measures, some teams may still be pushing boundaries.

“The playoff system is a big piece of it,” Logano pointed out. “You have to ask, who do you answer to?”

As NASCAR tries to balance its high-stakes playoff drama with the need for fair competition, Logano’s comments highlight just how fragile that balance is. Fans and critics alike will now be watching closely to see if NASCAR investigates these new claims or tightens its grip further to maintain the sport’s integrity.

What’s Next for NASCAR?

Logano’s fiery remarks leave NASCAR with a daunting challenge: can they restore faith in the system while keeping the on-track drama alive? The sanctioning body has yet to comment on his allegations, but the pressure to act is mounting.

For now, one thing is clear—Joey Logano isn’t content to let his championship victory overshadow the issues he believes could threaten the spirit of NASCAR. As the sport heads into the offseason, all eyes will be on how NASCAR responds to these accusations and whether more drastic changes are on the horizon.
