Joey Logano Deflects Daytona Crash Blame onto Ricky Stenhouse Jr.: Inside the Controversy

Intense Daytona heat set the stage for a dramatic race, where Joey Logano was all geared up to etch his name on the lauded Daytona 500 trophy. However, his vision of victory quickly blurred as an unforeseen incident dashed all his hopes. Interestingly, Logano didn’t shoulder the blame for the mishap, instead chose to lay it squarely on fellow racer, Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

15 laps away from the finish line, Logano attempted to overtake Ricky Stenhouse Jr. However, the space was tight, leading to a massive crash that eliminated several race contenders, including Logano’s own Team Penske mate, Ryan Blaney.

The racing community has since been embroiled in a heated discussion, attempting to dissect who was at fault for the disastrous crash. As of now, the brunt of the blame seems to be falling on Logano. When asked about the incident, Logano was quick to absolve himself of any responsibility, stating, “Not my fault; it was Stenhouse’s move.” His comment drew criticism from fellow racer Kyle Busch, who commented on Logano’s reckless attempt to create a non-existent pathway.

Unfazed by the criticism, Logano reiterated his stance, asserting that his move was justified and it was Stenhouse’s late block that caused the accident. He argued that he had assumed Stenhouse would switch back to the third lane, and when he saw an opening, he sped up, leading to the collision.

The incident raised questions about whether Logano’s impatience cost him and potentially other racers the race. On the flip side, Stenhouse Jr. wasn’t entirely blameless either, as his constant lane switching to ward off Logano’s attempts proved to be a contributing factor.

The crash resulted in the elimination of top contenders including Logano, Stenhouse, Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott, Brad Keselowski, Noah Gragson, Cole Custer, and Todd Gilliland. Ryan Blaney, despite being caught in the chaos, managed to recover and finish in an impressive seventh place. However, the incident cast a shadow over Team Penske, particularly as Blaney was in a promising position to clinch the Daytona 500 victory, only to have his chances sabotaged by his teammate’s move.

In the aftermath of the Daytona fiasco, Ryan Blaney, in his search for his first Daytona 500 victory, expressed disappointment. He underscored the importance of teammates and OEM partnership at Superspeedway, lamenting that Logano’s haste cost him a shot at Daytona glory.

In response to the ensuing tension within Team Penske, Logano compared the situation to a marital conflict. He emphatically stated that there was no intention to wreck his teammate. Despite the unfortunate outcome, he insisted that none of their team rules were violated.

The silver lining for the Penske duo is that the 2025 season still offers numerous opportunities to resolve their differences and attain glory on the racetrack. As the dust settles on the Daytona incident, the racing world watches with bated breath, anticipating the next chapter in this thrilling saga.
