Ty Gibbs displayed impressive consistency during Sunday’s race in Phoenix. The dominance shown by Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota teams was evident throughout the event. The four JGR drivers led for over 50 laps, while TRD led for over 250 laps. The driver of the No. 20 Camry showed an incredible recovery, securing the win with a four-second advantage.
Another highlight of the day was the driver of the No. 54 Camry. This young driver, in only his second full season, delivered his best performance yet, finishing in third place after leading for over 57 laps. The JGR owner, who is also the driver’s grandfather, expressed pride in young Gibbs and expressed hope for his first NASCAR Cup win in the near future.
Gibbs showed remarkable consistency throughout the 2024 season. He did not finish outside the top-20, with his worst result being 17th place in Daytona. He has already achieved two top-5 finishes, which is half of his total top-5s in 2023. With the confidence gained from his experience last season, Gibbs is certainly a driver to watch this season.
Reflecting on the race, Gibbs acknowledged that he needed a little more to beat Bell on Sunday. He also mentioned that the No. 54 car team lost valuable points during pit stops, but praised their recovery to the front of the pack. The team faced challenges in the middle sector of the race, which they plan to address before the next race. If they can solve these problems and maintain consistency, a breakthrough win in 2024 may not be far off for Gibbs.
