Jenson Button makes electrifying switch to Aston Martin: a new era begins in F1

Jenson Button Joins Aston Martin: A Game-Changer for Formula 1!

In a thrilling twist in the world of Formula 1, 2009 world champion Jenson Button has officially been unveiled as Aston Martin’s newest team ambassador in a groundbreaking multi-year agreement. This move marks a significant shift for Button, who previously held ambassadorial and advisory roles at Williams, where he also made his F1 debut in 2000.

But why Aston Martin? The answer lies in the team’s pivotal transformation into a Honda works team, a partnership that resonates deeply with Button’s illustrious past. Having spent the majority of his career behind the wheel of Honda-powered vehicles—most notably with the BAR and McLaren teams—Button’s connection to the brand is undeniable. He boasts an impressive record, with 142 Grand Prix starts with Honda, far surpassing legends like Ayrton Senna, who competed in 96 races for the manufacturer. Button’s crowning glory came in 2006 when he clinched victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix, solidifying Honda’s status as a formidable constructor.

At 46 years old, Button’s role at Aston Martin will be multifaceted, focusing on enhancing the team’s media presence, forging partnerships, and boosting commercial endeavors. The team has lavished praise on Button, emphasizing his “credibility, global recognition, storytelling, perspective, and passion,” all crucial elements that will help propel Aston Martin into a new era of competitiveness.

“I am thrilled to join Aston Martin during such a transformative time in both the team and the sport,” Button expressed with palpable enthusiasm. “The new works partnership with Honda was a significant factor in my decision. I’m eager to bring my wealth of experience to this ambitious team. The 2026 season is shaping up to be a thrilling adventure, and I can hardly wait for the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne!”

After retiring from professional racing following the 2025 World Endurance Championship, where he competed for Cadillac Team Jota, Button had signaled a desire to shift his focus towards historic races. Reflecting on his transition from racing, he noted, “If you want to race in endurance, you have to be fully committed. Each time you get in the car, there’s a new learning curve, and at 44 years old, it takes longer to adapt compared to when you’re in your 20s.”

As Button steps into this pivotal role with Aston Martin, the excitement surrounding his return to the F1 arena is palpable. The stakes are high, and the world will be watching as Button leverages his extensive background and passion for racing to help elevate Aston Martin on the global stage. Buckle up, Formula 1 fans; the 2026 season is set to ignite with this monumental collaboration!
