Jenson Button Reveals Insider Secrets of Surviving Sleep Deprivation at Le Mans

The Le Mans 24 Hours race is known for its grueling schedule that pushes drivers to their limits, testing not only their skills on the track but also their endurance off the track. Amidst topics like traffic and rain, one evergreen subject that always surfaces is sleep deprivation. With practice sessions running late into the night and media commitments early in the morning, drivers can easily find themselves awake for over 36 hours straight during the iconic race weekend.

But does age play a factor in handling the demanding schedule? According to Cadillac Jota driver, Jenson Button, his experience as a father gives him a unique advantage. The 45-year-old racing veteran, who is no stranger to sleepless nights with two kids, confidently states, “I know what it’s like not sleeping.” Button’s ability to fall asleep quickly after getting out of the car has proven to be a valuable asset during the race weekend, allowing him to recharge efficiently between stints.

Reflecting on his past experiences at Le Mans, including driving a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with Hendrick Motorsports in 2023, Button shared insights into his unconventional racing ventures. Despite initial doubts about racing a NASCAR Cup car at the iconic circuit, Button found the experience exhilarating and praised the professionalism of Hendrick Motorsports. His participation in the Garage 56 innovative entry showcased his adaptability and competitive spirit, surprising many with the car’s performance against traditional GTE cars.

Transitioning to his current racing endeavors with the Cadillac team, Button expressed his eagerness to compete for victory in the Hypercar class. His journey from testing a NASCAR at Le Mans to joining forces with Cadillac reflects his relentless pursuit of success and passion for diverse racing challenges.

As Button gears up for another thrilling Le Mans 24 Hours, fans can expect him to bring his trademark determination and expertise to the track, solidifying his status as a seasoned competitor in endurance racing. With a blend of experience, skill, and a unique perspective on sleep deprivation, Jenson Button remains a force to be reckoned with at the world’s most prestigious endurance race.
