Jeff Gordon and William Byron Call Out Joey Logano After Daytona 500 Wreck – calling Joey Logano’s “Stupid” Actions at Daytona

For 43 laps, Joey Logano looked untouchable at the 2025 Daytona 500. The Team Penske driver dominated the race, winning Stage 1 and proving he had the fastest car on the track.

But speed isn’t everything at Daytona—decisions matter just as much. And with 15 laps to go, Logano made a move that changed the entire race.

His aggressive attempt to force his way into the middle lane triggered a multi-car crash, collecting Kyle Busch, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, and several others.

The wreck sent the race into chaos, setting up an overtime finish, and handing William Byron his second consecutive Daytona 500 victory.

After the race, Byron and Jeff Gordon didn’t hold back, calling out Logano’s reckless move in brutal fashion.

Logano’s “Stupid Move” Sparks Daytona Chaos

Logano’s aggression was on full display in the final laps.

  • He tried to squeeze into the middle lane while battling Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
  • Stenhouse blocked the move, but Logano still forced the issue.
  • The two made contact, sending Logano into Kyle Busch, which triggered the eight-car wreck.

The wreck set off a chain reaction, ultimately reshuffling the entire field and leaving Logano, Busch, and other top contenders in the garage instead of Victory Lane.

Jeff Gordon and William Byron Take Shots at Logano

While many drivers stayed diplomatic post-race, Hendrick Motorsports’ legends didn’t.

During a press conference, Jeff Gordon didn’t hesitate to call Logano out when asked about reckless driving:

“Joey did.”

Sitting beside him, Daytona 500 winner William Byron couldn’t help but agree.

“Yeah, that’s true.”

The message was clear: Logano’s impatience cost him the race—and nearly cost others as well.

Kyle Busch Rips Logano for “Creating Chaos”

While Gordon and Byron were blunt, Kyle Busch’s frustration was even more raw.

The two-time Cup Series champion was running inside the top five, poised for his first Daytona 500 victory—until Logano’s dive bomb ruined everything.

Busch didn’t hold back post-race:

“Looks like the fastest car got in a hurry to get to the wreck.”

“Logano was by far the fastest car today. Saw a lot of laps led, and he could do about anything. The Penske cars were very strong.”

“We still got 20 laps to go and he’s trying to go through the middle and make a hole that isn’t there. Just created chaos.”

Busch has been desperate for a Daytona 500 win, and Logano’s poor judgment call took away one of his best chances yet.

Did Logano Cost Team Penske a Daytona 500 Victory?

Before the wreck, Team Penske looked unstoppable.

  • Joey Logano led 43 laps and won Stage 1.
  • Ryan Blaney was in contention until the crash took him out.
  • Austin Cindric was also in the mix until the final overtime wreck.

But one move from Logano unraveled everything.

Instead of celebrating in Victory Lane, Penske’s top drivers watched from the garage as William Byron took the checkered flag.

Logano’s Aggression: Hero or Villain?

Joey Logano is one of NASCAR’s most aggressive drivers—and it has paid off before.

But this time, his gamble didn’t work.

  • Was it a necessary risk?
  • Or was it just reckless driving that cost multiple drivers a shot at the win?

One thing is clear—Logano isn’t winning any popularity contests in the garage after Daytona.

And with criticism coming from Gordon, Byron, and Busch, he’ll have a lot to answer for heading into Atlanta.
