Jean Alesi’s iconic Ferrari F92A set for auction: a 30-year treasure worth up to €5 million

Unleash the Legend: Jean Alesi’s Iconic Ferrari F92A Set to Make Waves at Auction! Estimated Between €3-5 Million!

Get ready, motorsport enthusiasts! A legendary piece of Formula 1 history is about to hit the auction block, and it’s none other than the breathtaking Ferrari F92A, once commanded by the renowned Jean Alesi. This extraordinary race car, which has remained untouched for over three decades, is expected to fetch an eye-popping sum of between €3 million and €5 million!

A Timeless Treasure from 1992

The Ferrari F92A, a symbol of innovation from the tumultuous 1992 racing season, has been preserved in pristine condition by Alesi himself. Offered as a unique gift from Ferrari after the season’s end, this masterpiece has been a centerpiece in the former driver’s villa, frozen in time since its last outing. Alesi, who only raced this particular car five times, achieved remarkable finishes, including a fourth place in Germany and a fifth in Australia, despite the overall challenges faced by the Scuderia.

Alesi recalls the last moments behind the wheel of this engineering marvel: “The car had been serviced, I took two laps at Fiorano, then returned to the pits. The tires were changed, and it was loaded onto the truck with the engine still hot. Once home, I set it up, and it has never moved since.”

A Glimpse into Ferrari’s Bold Era

The F92A is not just a car; it’s a snapshot of Ferrari’s audacious approach to racing in the early ’90s. Known for its radical aerodynamic design, particularly the innovative double floor, it stood out as a beacon of cutting-edge engineering. “It was an extremely innovative car, with aerodynamic downforce that surpassed its competitors,” Alesi proudly states.

However, such boldness came at a cost. The F92A faced significant mechanical hurdles, notably compression leaks that led to engine failures. In a bold move to tackle these issues, Ferrari equipped the car with a secondary oil tank, activated by a button in the cockpit—a detail that left rival teams scratching their heads in confusion.

An Emotional Bond Beyond Racing

The connection between Alesi and this Ferrari transcends mere mechanics. As the 1992 season concluded amidst internal upheavals at Ferrari and the arrival of Gerhard Berger, Alesi expressed his dissatisfaction to the legendary Niki Lauda. “I wasn’t asking for more money; I was asking for respect,” he admitted. In an unexpected gesture of goodwill, Ferrari responded, “We love you, don’t worry. Here’s a gift: your car.”

Following a final test at Fiorano, the F92A became Alesi’s personal possession—a rarity in Scuderia history, making this auction even more significant.

A Historic Auction Awaits

Now, three decades later, the Ferrari F92A, a unique treasure that has remained with its pilot, is ready to find a new owner. With an estimation that reflects both its rarity and the emotional weight it carries, collectors and fans alike are bracing for a thrilling bidding war.

The auction, conducted by Artcurial, is set to take place at the opulent Peninsula Paris, alongside 65 other classic cars, on January 27, 2026. Stay tuned for what promises to be a monumental event that will resonate through the annals of automotive history!

Get ready to witness the extraordinary as this iconic piece of racing heritage hits the market, and who knows—you might just find yourself in the driver’s seat of history!
