The Japanese government is considering offering subsidies for the construction of Tesla electric vehicle charging stations as part of ongoing tariff negotiations with the United States.
This information was reported on Monday by the Japanese press, following concerns raised by U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer regarding Japan’s subsidy policy, which requested that Tesla’s Supercharger network be included in Tokyo’s government support.
Currently, the Japanese government provides support exclusively for the installation of electric vehicle charging stations using a charging system that was developed in Japan.
Although Tesla electric vehicles can be connected to charging points compatible with the Japanese system using a special adapter, vehicles equipped with the Japanese “CHAdeMO” system are not compatible with Tesla’s superchargers.
